Map showing Medway, East Millinocket and MillinocketMedway Maine, conveniently located just off Interstate 95, is a key entry point to the great north woods and a gateway to Baxter State Park and Mt. Katahdin. The town is approximately 70 miles north of Bangor, in northern Penobscot County. Today it has a population of 1,489.

Medway has a board of selectmen and follows a comprehensive town charter. The Town Council is composed of five members, who elect their chair annually. They meet on every Monday at 6:30pm at the town office.

Logging Truck PhotoMedway supports a variety of local businesses, including a turf and mulch manufacturer and a paving supply and asphalt company. The area offers year-round tourism opportunities, including snowmobiling, white water rafting, hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting.

The Wooden Canoe FestivalEvery August, Medway hosts the Wooden Canoe Festival, a three day event celebrating the history and tradition of canoe making and the associated recreations that have formed this region's heritage.

Medway is a low taxed community with an excellent K-12 educational system, 24-hour fire and ambulance and public works. Medway employs a town administrative assistant, and one person who acts as tax collector, tax assessor, and code enforcement officer illustrating their progressive and community oriented nature. The town is served by the Millinocket Regional Hospital, a full service rural hospital.

The town meeting will always correspond with the state elections, if elections are on Tuesday, the meeting will be on Wednesday evening at 6:00pm. This year the elections are on June 8th, so there will be a June 9th town meeting.
