Millinocket is located in the heart
of Maine, just 12 miles west of Interstate 95, which connects local
businesses and residents to Southern Maine and the rest of New
England.
The town, with a population of 5,203, is approximately 80 miles
south of the Trans-Canada Highway, the major east/west route through
Canada.
Surrounded
by woodlands, lakes, rivers and mountains, Millinocket residents
enjoy year-round recreational opportunities amidst spectacular
natural beauty. The town is only 20 miles from Mt. Katahdin, Maine’s
highest mountain and the terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Poet
Henry David Thoreau explored and wrote about this area in his book,
The Maine Woods. It remains a preferred destination for outdoor

An abundance of wildlife—deer,
bear, moose—find an
excellent habitat in the Millinocket region. Photographers from
all over the
world have documented the wild landscapes in and around Baxter
State Park in numerous national and international magazines. This
area
also provides a backdrop for artists from Maine and the United
States.
Millinocket’s excellent trail system and accommodations offer
an unparalleled winter experience for snowmobilers and their families.
Nearby lakes provide ice fishing for salmon, pickerel, and whitefish.
For those seeking a slower pace, the Millinocket area also has many
miles of excellent trails for cross-country skiers. The Millinocket
Snowmobile Trail Committee as well as area restaurants, hotels,
and motels provide updated trail conditions on a daily basis.
